Downsample Your .JPGs

TurboIIS 2003 can compress your .jpgs with minimal loss in quality

The .jpg image format is already compressed, however, TurboIIS can downsample those images for an even further reduction in size. TurboIIS 2003 lets you set a default level of downsampling. If that level is not appropriate for certain images on your site, you can tell it to use a different level of downsampling, just for those images. This is convenient when you have certain images that are important to keep at high quality, such as a logo, or certain larger images that normally take a long time to download and don't need to be at full quality.

Downsampling is a lossy method of compressing images. That means that some data is actually taken out of the image to reduce its size, and therefore reduces its quality. Past versions of TurboIIS only offered lossless, meaning no necessary data was removed, however not all images were reduced dramatically. Only images which were not already in a compressed format were affected, i.e. .GIF, .PNG, TIFF, etc.. JPEGs were only negligibly compressed. If this lossless method suits the needs of your website, you can disactivate the downsampling feature, and TurboIIS will only compress losslessly any images on your site.
